ATHUL...the death bringer

Hey y'all... I'm doing this character for my friend Fabian to do a kick-ass model (you can see his work on another concept I did in Zbrushcentral.com). The idea is a character with a monk-link persona but with the goal of bringing death to those for their salvation. He severed his arm to bond with his new blade/hook arm to enhance his death bringer calling. Please lemme know if you have any comments or suggestions.. it's a work-in-progress... so any advance would be appreciated... thanks!

on-site Sargent study on the DS

One thing I love about the Gameboy DS is it's portability... so why not bring it to a museum! I had such a thrill doing this Sargent study in front of the ACTUAL painting... can you imagine! WOW! The actual non-reproduced colors, texture, and brushstrokes are there right in front of me...woah! So, I did this study of the hand in Sargent's Dr. Pozzi at Home in the Hammer Museum. I think I'll do more. I'm gonna post this in the Color Gallery if you wanna see the step-by-step of this painting....lates!

ARM!.. a bit off topic but...it's for a good cause!

Hey...A costume party will be held at the Vanguard in LA and to benefit the research for a non profit organization called ARM http://www.hibm.org/arm/. ARM funds research for a rare debilitating muscle disease called HIBM. ARM is developing the first steps towards a treatment but needs funding to move forward. Go there or at Mindy Lee's blog for more info... I can't go unfortunately but it looks like fun!

more DS paintings!

More paintings on the DS! You know how painting in the dark with real paint sucks 'cause you cannot see anything at all... it's the complete opposite with the DS... painting in the dark/ dusk is cool... painting with the sun up is an act of faith. :)

from my DS lite...

Got a new toy!... sort of... it all started when I was "forced" by Mindy to buy this card that can house this painting program on the Nintendo DS. It's sooo cool! These are my first tries... did about 5min of Photoshop clean up but not much! t's fast and easy to carry with you anywhere. Afterall, it's a DS...Enjoy!

Sherman Oaks

LA sunset on Sunset

Sheez! What's up with not going to bed without getting one painting outta my system... I just think LA is sooo beautiful especially during the sunsets. The colors are just so brilliant... well, I know it's the pollution but you gotta look at the positives in life... or so I've been told. More to come!

My Character and Icon

landscape idea

doodling late last night.. before the palm tree one below... and finished it up... it's pride rock in the winter...hehehe

I really should be sleeping

Aaaack! I tell myself every night to sleep earlier! Oh wells... when I have something on my mind it's hard to move from that idea. This time, I have Los Angeles sunsets on my mind and one of the most beautiful things here in LA are the palm trees at sunsets. I used one of my photos as ref but used my artistic sensibilty to give it a little somethin' somethin'. Laters.. now to bed.

Face Study

Hello boys and girls! It's face day... at my work right now, I've been doing mostly environment and such. So, I feel that my people skillz are getting rusty... thus, I did this R. Bison study... kind of a warm up for some unknown future project... so there you go..

(PS... I have a new display icon... it's a character of me at work!.. I might make him into something more... an alter ego or sorts... what do you think?)

monotone baby!

I forgot about this concept painting I did during some down time. Looked at some Roman ruins and got this idea on an abandoned oasis in the desert.. and the idea ran from that point. Enjoy! More posts-a-coming!

Restart!

Man! It's been a while since my last post... sorry about that... went to Italy for my honeymoon which was awesome.. even caught the Sargent in Venice show which I've been bragging to whoever I meet... 30+ Sargents in one room! Whoa! Then, I was priviledged (since the show was in Venice Italy) to see some of the places he actually painted... but enough about that.. here is a quick painting to help jump start my postings... enjoy!

tree field

I tried something new... well old.. but new again... we had a copy of painter at work so I did some glow brush paintings.. I like the results that I could not wait to try it out at home... so I decided to do something fairly simple... trees in a field... so I used my version of Painter all ready for the glow brush.. instead, thanks to my alla prima and plein air training (and the swirling of painters in my head... this time it's Christensen, Sargent, and Tiemens, and Mike Hernandez)... this is what happened... eh, it's always a surprise!
